Scenario Outlines from Belli Occulta

Image
Writing scenarios is a time consuming endeavour for me, so I don't usually do it outside of contests. When I come up with scenarios for Belli Occulta, my home game, they're rarely anything more than a web of clues that have two or three methods of figuring out who the bad guy is and about as many ways to kill them.  Belli Occulta has had a lot of really cool games that I frankly have no inclination to write for two reasons 1. To try to write the scenario and account for every possible way of solving it, including the method the agents used, is time consuming and kind of boring. 2. A lot of the games relied on the player's prior experience in the campaign, which works for me, but them being so contextualized can make them challenging to adapt.  What I have decided to do is to share the rough outlines of some of my homebrew scenarios, so that anything neat you see here you can just pilfer and use for your own game, or just use to farm inspiration for your own game. So here th...

Working for the Man

Image
April 16 1999 The members of Cell 'I' have received cryptic and strange notes at their workplaces summoning them to the Green Bar at Club Apocalypse. Months ago, they struck a bargain with The Network in exchange for information that proved crucial in their raid against The Skoptsi.  They arrive. They spot a number of weird figures. Members of Taras Dzubenko's crew are getting fucked up doing vodka shots in the main bar. They get a few glares and odd looks. They notice a group of three men dressed in suits and wide-brimmed hats. They have an east-asian look to them, but their eyes are a strange, dullish yellow, and their skin is an odd sepia or grey. They are received by a member of The Network, an unkempt man decked in army surplus clothes, on one hand the leviathan cross, on the other, the star of David.  They are taken to the Green bar and given refreshments before meeting with Belial, who gives them their first task: Conduct a brief surveillance operation against fo...

Report: Bleeding Darkness Part Two

Image
Part Two: " The Body and the Blood" 3:00 PM, March 10th, 1999.  Agents Irena, Indigo, and Imogen return to their safehouse in Queens with the mysterious briefcase that Indigo had snatched from the adept following Dr. Monpierre. On the way there, they buy plastic tarps, jumpsuits, duct tape, and a crowbar. They haul the heavy briefcase to an empty room and prepare to open it. A chamber covered in plastic tarp is thrown together, and Irena volunteers herself to attempting to pry open the briefcase with the crowbar. She is successful at doing this, though ends up splashing its contents across the room, getting some on her skin.  The briefcase contains a viscous, black substance that stains everything it touches like ink, it is thick, heavy, warm, and absolutely foul-smelling. Also in the briefcase is a plastic bag with clothes and various small weapons: a hatchet, a hammer, a steak knife, a meat tenderizer, a garrote wire, and set of brass knuckles. In the centre of the cas...

SHOTGUN CONTEST 2024: Reviews.

Image
This is going to be my attempt to read and review as many entries from the 2024 shotgun contest as possible. This contest has become notorious in past years for the sheer volume of entries, so I will be trying to read these and give my honest thoughts on them as they are sent in. So yeah. Fun. This isn't following any sort of metric of guideline and is just what my thoughts on the scenarios.  I eventually got burnt out of reading all of these entries, and don't really feel inclined to read more. sooooo here's the damage: THE POLYGRAPH I found the polygraph to be an interesting setpiece, and it's a rare one. I always appreciate Delta Green scenarios that are "mundane" in that aliens or zombies or monsters are not present, but still play up the cloak-and-dagger conspiracy angle of the game. This really did it. I think this is a very nice little scenario to throw at agents to really make them squirm, and I can see Miller and Tanya being persistent nuisances to ag...
