Benno Wertheim, Karotechia Bischofe, Guest of the Propavsheye
Benno Wertheim was recruited to the Karotechia cause in 1978 by Dr. Olaf Bitterich. His grandfather was an officer of the Ahnenerbe SS during the Second World War who had helped translate numerous scriptures from old Gothic and Latin into modern German. Wertheim had inherited his father's wealth and some of his notes, which puzzled him and filled with curiosity that later bloomed into obsession.
Wertheim was quickly won over to the Karotechia cause, and after being instructed in esoterica by Dr. Bitterich and made one of the twelve Bischofe, he was put to work collecting and researching the work of various alchemists and occult scholars across Europe. What he uncovered often overlapped with the research of Dr. Gunter Franks, and the two occasionally met to compare notes (and, for Wertheim, to spy on Franks for Bitterich).
When the Karotechia was dismantled in 2001 by the combined forces of the Americans and the Russians, Wertheim found himself in the living custody of the Propavsheye, a brotherhood of the Ukrainian Mafia that had close allies in the Russian GRU SV-8. Rather than thrown into a hole and shot as he imagined, he was given a deal. The Russians wanted to learn everything he knew, and the Ukrainians wanted his work to continue. He quickly found himself in the good graces of the very people that destroyed his old organization. Through the Propavsheye and SV-8, lab notes and caches of occult treasures were recovered and stored for study at a research facility in Kyiv. In 2008, with the restructuring of SV-8, Wertheim suddenly found a surge of resources into his work. Someone in Moscow was keenly interested to see it develop.
In 2012, Wertheim very nearly died of liver failure, though even after his recovery it was obvious in his advanced age that his health was only going to spiral downwards from here. He decided to apply some of the sciences he had pieced together from Dr. Franks. He conducted the same procedure that allowed Franks to live indefinitely in his "ice box", though Wertheim knew how the isolation of Dr. Franks' condition would affect him, and chose to deploy a work-around, cribbing some of SV-8's research to make it happen.
In 2016, Wertheim lives in his research lab in Kyiv, guarded by his Propavsheye captors. His laboratory is cooled, though not to the degree of old Dr. Franks' lab, though it can be lowered to that temperature if need be, and Wertheim's personal quarters sit at that cool, cool temperature. When he is doing work, Wertheim works in what he calls his "Snowsuit". The Snowsuit is a heavily modified Russian 'Orlan' Spacesuit combined with a prototype exoskeleton developed by SV-8 for the military, the Orlan's lifesupport system has been replaced with a refrigeration system that keeps the suit around 5 degrees celsius at all times, with a battery life of 28 hours (charged electrically). The suit's thick gloves can be switched out for smaller, tighter-fitting gloves that still maintain internal coolness, though for surgeries, Wertheim usually orders the room temperature to be lowered to where he does not need to use the suit at all, in which case he dons medical scrubs.
Wertheim's research is primarily a reconstruction and continuation of Franks', though he has become fixated on the alchemical research of Simon Orne and other alchemists and sorcerers whose work the Karotechia and SV-8 have been able to scrounge. He has become especially interested in what few reports he has been allowed to view involving the Evenki cultists of Siberia and their arctic storm-god "Kotura". Perhaps learning more about these cults and their rituals could allow him to thrive in his current condition.

THE SNOWSUIT: The Snowsuit is able to protect Benno against most attacks, and has been reinforced to resist small arms fire. It is hermetically sealed, and until it is pierced by small arms fire (or the visor is shattered), Benno is also protected against toxic fumes and agents. It likewise provides protection from fire for a 1D4 turns before the suit begins to deteriorate. The exoskeleton fixed to the suit likewise grants him with exceptional strength. He is treated as having 16 STR for the purposes of Melee and unarmed damage bonuses and STRx5 rolls. This does not alter his HP pool.
SACRIFICIAL DAGGER: Appears to be an SS officer’s dagger.
When used in a human sacrifice, it uses the victim’s HP
and POW to fuel the Honor the Führer ritual. When used
to perform a human sacrifice in the presence of Der
Führer, the victim’s Willpower flows into the dagger and
thence into anything, or anyone, the wielder wishes.
