Scenario Outline: Operation HOI POLLOI

Image
CALIFORNIA UBER ALLES or OPERATION HOI POLLOI HOOK Your agents are called to liaison with local law enforcement in Sacramento, California after a mass shooting at a synagogue leaves twenty dead and other injured. This might be in their official capacity as federal agents, or it might be A-Cell being proactive, as the perpetrators are members of the Bear Flag Republic, a white supremacist militia that Delta Green suspects of being connected to the Karotechia. When manifestos taking responsibility for the attack begin being mailed to television and radio news stations across the state, it quickly becomes apparent that the situation is worse than anyone first believed. Inserted into the manifesto are lines from the accursed play, " The King in Yellow ". A-Cell's directives for your agents are to contain the outbreak of the King in Yellow through any means necessary, identify the origin of the manifestos destroy it and whoever is responsible for distributing them, and to cove...

Scenario Outline: OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES

Image
OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES May 28th, 1996. Bischofe Werner Linz is given a sudden assignment in Mexico leading a small hit-team to recapture a Karotechia research facility in rural Chihuahua after it went dark following reports of a mutiny and the escape of a specimen. It's unglamorous but necessary work. This would be the second mutiny this year including the Odessa incident, which has forced the group to return to the drawing board on their Black Sea operations.  Linz travels with a cooler full of blood and three Ritter and recaptures the facility with moderate ease. He resurrects his fellow Bischofe, Immanuel "The Swabian" Toth, and many of Toth's Nahua research "assistants", and is able to contain the escaped "specimen", a smoke-breathing, floating invisible horror trapped in the makeshift testing facility. The research program, "Aktion HARUSPEX", appears to deal with the invocation and communion with an alien intelligence which Tot...

Scenario Outline: Crescendo

Image
Crescendo - Operation DRAW On August 2nd, 2002, Kurtis Cameron Boyd, a record producer for Conqueror Worm Records, enters the Record label's office armed with a pump-action shotgun and a jerry can of gasoline. He kills three people with close-range shotgun blasts before he enters the recording studio where Charnel Dreams have been recording their latest album,  The Goddess of the Black Fan,  where he douses recording equipment, instruments, and master recordings in gasoline and sets it alight in an attempt to destroy the music and the entire recording studio. By the time he exits the burning recording studio, police and the fire department are on their way. He proceeds to his office and pours himself a large whiskey, downs it, and turns the gun on himself.  Conqueror Worm Records is a known property of Robert Hubert, known in the occult underground as Belial, also the manager of Club Apocalypse and its house band, Charnel Dreams. Belial is a deadly, violent man and a...

Scenario Outline: Stoking the Coals

Image
Stoking the Coals - Operation HOLLOW HILL II This scenario is especially niche and not really worth writing because it is a sequel to a 90s version of Language of the Stars .  Delta Green has caught wind of a developing situation that will require immediate, decisive action to resolve before it gets out of control. Saucerwatch, a UFO conspiracy publication that has dogged the heels of Delta Green agents in the past, has recently hired Doretta Wynch, a hard-nosed investigative journalist from Baltimore, to delve into the case of the so-called "Colorado Walking Man" of 1998.  The "Colorado Walking Man" is the term coined by the UFOlogy community at large for a series of strange weather events, lightning strikes, and wildfires across Colorado, Kansas, South Dakota, and Wyoming for a period of about three days in May, 1998. The Walking Man (named so for the pattern of lightning strikes reported by alleged witnesses who described the lightning strikes falling like ...

Scenario Outline: Radicals

Radicals - Operation PALINDROME This one I recently ran for my Wednesday group to great success, but the sandbox nature of it means that it would really just turn into a giant writeup of setpieces and "what ifs" that frankly I'm not interested in penning, not to mention that the setting for this would require a lot of research I honestly don't have the interest to do. In August, 2000. A confidential report inside the FBI's organized crime task force crosses the desk of Matthew Carpenter, Deputy Director of the FBI and Agent ADAM of A-Cell. The report details continued arms smuggling into the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland by the Irish Mob post-Good Friday Agreement. A testimony given by confidential informant is what raises eyebrows. The informant claims to have attended a sit-down mediated by an ex-fixer of the PIRA (Provisional Irish Republican Army) between the Irish Mob and a delegate from the  Army of the Third Eye . Having just recovered from the ...

EVERY MAN AND WOMAN IS A STAR

Image
This is a reimagining of Caleb Stokes' cancelled Delta Green scenario " Language of the Stars ". I considered writing a whole scenario, but that seemed like a waste of time because this really is just replacing and adding important characters and not meaningfully rewriting any of the mechanics.  According to Stokes the reason the scenario has been cancelled is because of overwhelmingly negative feedback from playtesters on the timeline mechanic that the scenario hinges on, which is a shame in my opinion because I found the timeline mechanic inobstrusive and lended a real sense of pace to the scenario that I haven't really seen elsewhere. Oh well.  The primary difference between my version and the original is what Labyrinth faction is involved. Instead of the Dream Syndicate, it's the Sowers.  The Sowers in Language of the Stars.  Isaac Fletcher is a Deacon of the Sowers, his loving wife is Halimah Jassim, a girl he knew from college who became enamoured with Fletc...

Scenario Outlines from Belli Occulta

Image
Writing scenarios is a time consuming endeavour for me, so I don't usually do it outside of contests. When I come up with scenarios for Belli Occulta, my home game, they're rarely anything more than a web of clues that have two or three methods of figuring out who the bad guy is and about as many ways to kill them.  Belli Occulta has had a lot of really cool games that I frankly have no inclination to write for two reasons 1. To try to write the scenario and account for every possible way of solving it, including the method the agents used, is time consuming and kind of boring. 2. A lot of the games relied on the player's prior experience in the campaign, which works for me, but them being so contextualized can make them challenging to adapt.  What I have decided to do is to share the rough outlines of some of my homebrew scenarios, so that anything neat you see here you can just pilfer and use for your own game, or just use to farm inspiration for your own game. So here th...
