"The Air Force Office of Special Investigations released their report today into the training accident last summer that resulted in the crashing of a Sikorksy HH-60 Pave Hawk and the deaths of 11 people. The helicopter, which had been mustered as part of a secret training exercise with the Air Force Pararescue, was believed to have suffered a massive electronics failure, causing the pilot to lose control of the aircraft, causing it to crash into a government-owned property outside the suburb of Bountin, Maryland, where the Pararescuemen were slated to be performing a "downed pilot" rescue scenario. The incident beccame a magnet for conspiracy theorists, with rumours of UFO sightings and automatic gunfire circulating on online chatrooms, and in right-wing conspiracy publications. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations has gone on to flatly deny and condemn the UFO conspiracy outlets "Saucerwatch" and "Phenomen-X" for their claims that the crash was a coverup for illegal government experimentation taking place at the now-restricted Bountin facility, calling the claims "baseless and without warrant", and that they "attempt to turn a tragedy into a political farce"."
"In other news, inquiries have concluded into the death of a Royal Air Force officer after a car crash off the interstate in Washington D.C.. The incident on December 13th lead to the untimely death of Major Kenneth Codrington, a decorate officer of the British Special Air Service. Codrington's death caused a minor diplomatic stir, as British authorities claimed they were unaware Codrington was even in the United States. Closed inquiries by the MI-5 began shortly thereafter to investigate the matter, and while many of the findings have not been publicly disclosed, the cause of death has been ruled accidental."
"And lastly, in Oklahoma today, authorities are continuing to inspect the grounds of a compound belonging to the Neo-Fascist militia "The Aryan People's National Resistance". Early yesterday morning local police accompanied by FBI SWAT attempted to execute an arrest warrant for the group's leader Dennis Sauer, claiming Sauer and his group had amassed a cache of illegal weapons, explosives, and narcotics. Early reports the raid was met with stiff resistance, with the militia attacking with automatic gun fire and explosives. An unconfirmed number of casualties have been reported, and at the moment, the compound has been cordoned by the ATF, who are in the process of disposing of huge caches of damaged unexploded ordinances at the scene."
"And now onto the sports desk with Bill Rader to tell you all about tonight's big event: Super Bowl 34, the St. Louis Rams versus the Tennessee Titans. Take it away, Bill-."
"Fuck".
"You okay, Joe?"
Joseph Camp shakes his head, then leans forward and takes the tumbler of whiskey off the table in front of him and drinks.
"Nothing.".
Matthew Carpenter turns to look at the television, which switches promptly from images of a neo-nazi compound engulfed in flames to a highlight reel of the St. Louis Rams.
"I just ate seeing us on the news."
"I know how you feel, weren't their fault, though."
"I know"
"I should have told them the Tulsa field office would try to play cowboy, oh well. They needed to keep their heads down after...well, you know."
"Mhm." Joe Camp drinks, then inspects the drink and swishes about in his hands. He makes a face as if to say "not bad".
"'scuse me!" Carpenter calls out, his voice carries such that he only needs to barely raise it for it to reach the bar clearly. "When's the game on?" The corn-fed nebraska kid polishing glasses checks his watch.
"Not for another hour." Carpenter nods.
"You wanna stick around to see the game?"
"...What the hell, why not" says Camp.
