HIS MASTER'S VOICE

Myself and Bird have been doing a little fun activity every friday. A two-to-three hour game of Microscope in which we make a new scenario. So far, its actually been a lot of fun, and generated some neat scenarios.

I don't know that I'll ever write them out fully, because my course work has me doing a lot of writing as is, and to be perfectly frank, I don't really enjoy writing Delta Green scenarios as much as I do just coming up with jot notes and improvising them in play. But, I'll describe the ones we made here and who knows, maybe you'll use them.

All of the scenarios we've made so far can be found in this Google Sheet. We've written three so far. HIS MASTER'S VOICE, ADAM'S RIB, and STUTTER. I will make a further two posts on the other scenarios.

HIS MASTER'S VOICE

HIS MASTER'S VOICE takes place in rural Kansas in the 1990s, and was our first attempt at making a "good ol' fashion" Delta Green scenario where you investigate some weird UFO shit and hilarity ensues. It was a neat exercise, though we wound up violating our palette a lot by the end (we pitched it as a scenario with no alien abduction, and while the Greys aren't taking people into their space ships to do surgery on them, they are most certainly kidnapping (abducting) them).

In this scenario, the Mi-Go have discovered a Stelae buried underneath the town of Ribbons, Kansas. They've discovered the Stelae is an ancient Serpentfolk weapon used to inflict hallucinations and psychic torments on nearby humans in order to keep them enslaved, and now they've begun to turn that technology to their purposes - though instead of strictly trying to keep the town enslaved, they're using its strange psychic properties to subject humans to surreal and nightmarish "mindscapes" to test their fear reaction, intuition, and problem-solving abilities.

The Mi-Go's experiments with the Stelae (which is actually a living being, a short of Serpentfolk Quasi-Shoggoth), has taken a toll on the local landscape and the population. To keep the Shoggoth satiated, the Mi-Go have taken to using cattle from nearby rancher's herds as fodder for profane occult rituals to placate it, and later to be turned into biological "factories" to create a nutrient slurry that feeds the Stelae, and is spiked with hallucinogens and fed to those the Mi-Go have kidnapped as they wander the tunnels beneath Ribbons all while the Stelae bombards them with nightmarish hallucinations.

It's also caused sinkholes to open up around town, and this has gotten the attention not only of Delta Green, but of the Saucerwatch. Denton Schaeffer interviews victims of abductions about their experiences, and a professional geologist, cave explorer, and longtime Saucerwatch volunteer James Maron has come to Ribbons with the intention of exploring and mapping out the sinkholes abductees are claiming are the sites of outlandish alien activity.

And of course, Majestic is on site. A team of NRO DELTA throw off the scent of the Mi-Go's cattle mutilations by sneaking into fields at night themselves and performing bizarre, satanic-looking acts of murder on cattle themselves (the murders are the obvious work of human hands, and thus throw the townspeople's suspicions away from aliens towards satanists), and some ELINT specialists from Project BLUE FLY have set up an "observation post" at a radio station near the outskirts of town to spy on the population - and see exactly what it is those Greys are really up to...

IMPORTANT CHARACTERS / ENTITIES (other than ones you'd already find in the Delta Green sourcebook).
  • THE ELK'S LODGE, most of the movers and shakers in Ribbons are members of the Elk's Lodge, least of all because its the only establishment in town that still has a liquor license, and because its weekly bingo nights that are famous county-wide.
    • DOC HOGAN, A rancher from Ribbons. He was one of the first to discover the Grey's mutilations of his cattle, as well as some of their strange experimentations - including the implanting of a glass-and-metal fistula into one of his heifers. He's enthusiastic about Saucerwatch, and hopes they'll help "get the word out".
    • T.B LINEGAR, The richest rancher in the county and holder of the Linegar beef fortune. Linegar's a money man who's only interest is turning a quick buck off all the attention his community is getting. Everyone's either a dupe or a nuisance to him, and he'll likely see your agents as the latter, which is tricky seeing that the Sheriff's his brother.
  • SAUCERWATCH
    • JAMES MARON, A published geologist, a photographer whose work has made the front cover of National Geographic, a seasoned cave explorer and cave diver, an alleged UFO "abductee" and one of Saucerwatch's most diehard volunteers. Schaeffer has asked him to lend his expertise on the Ribbons case, and is covering Maron's room and board in exchange for this favour. Maron, for his part, has been enthusiastic in exploring the strange caves under Ribbons - though he's having trouble recounting everything he's done and seen down there. Whether that's just his nerves, the Stelae, or the Mi-Go, is up to you.
  • THE USDA
    • ERNEST TALBOT, A United States Department of Agriculture Inspector who has come to town. Discrepancies have been noticed in the head count and spending for some local ranchers, including ranchers whose cattle end up in the meat and dairy supply. Talbot suspects something's being done to cover up and outbreak of something that these ranchers would really rather not have to report, and he's determined to get to the bottom of it. He has limited ability to really fuck with your players, but he can be a thorn in their ass all the same.
  • HORRORS OF THE CAVES
    • THE STELAE, is a forgotten living weapon from the era of the Serpentfolk that, stirred back to life, is hungry. The Mi-Go are content to poke and prod it, and explore its use as a weapon or a tool in further experimentation. They don't really understand what it is, though, and once the Stelae is overloaded with the psychic energy its been collecting through all these tortured, confused humans, its going to start driving people nuts - guiding them to its sinkholes or compelling them to tunnel towards it and offer themselves as sacrifice.
    • JIM JESSUP, is an iterant worker who burst into an Elk's Lodge bingo night a few weeks ago raving about a god in the ground. He was one of the first humans to get a strong, unfiltered psychic blast from the Stelae, and after it became apparent he was just going to be a nuisance for them, the Greys quietly kidnapped him and have since found better work for him. They've performed some horrific experiments on him, splicing him with some vivisected bovine specimens as well as some serpent-person DNA they've discovered. He now wanders the tunnels under Ribbons, corraling the Grey's abductees and keeping out intruders. A minotaur for the Mi-Go's maze.
